Community rules
Last updated: 4 November 2026
These rules apply to the gallery, the forum and the wishes of Notabula (together: the community). They are part of our terms and conditions.
1. Who can take part
Anyone can read. To share, write or vote you need an account with a confirmed email address, and you must be 16 or older.
What you write or share shows a public name you choose yourself. Your email address is never visible. Do not pretend to be someone else.
2. What you share is public
Everything in the community can be read by anyone and can end up in search engines. So do not include personal data, yours or anyone else's.
When you share an item, we make a copy of that moment. Later changes do not follow automatically, and nobody gets access to your original.
3. Rights to what you share
What you make stays yours. You may only share what you made yourself or have permission for.
By sharing something you allow Notabula to store it worldwide, show it in the community and make it suitable for that, for example by taking images or data out of it. This permission is free of charge, non-exclusive and lasts until you remove it.
You allow other users to make a copy, use it and change it in their own workspace. This permission is free of charge, non-exclusive and has no end date.
If you remove an item, it can no longer be found and we delete our copy. People who already use it keep their own copy.
4. What is not allowed
- Anything that breaks the law.
- Someone else's work without permission.
- Someone else's personal data.
- Advertising or spam.
- Anything offensive or threatening.
- Anything that does not belong in the community.
- An item that is not usable as an example for others.
5. How we check
We look at an item in the gallery before it becomes visible. We do not look at forum messages in advance, but we do when someone reports them or when we notice them. People make these decisions, not automated systems. We do check automatically whether an item seems to contain personal data, we limit the number of messages and links from new accounts, and a service checks that a report without an account does not come from an automated program. We also look at a report that seems suspicious in that check, only later than the others.
6. Reporting
Do you see something that is wrong or that you believe breaks the law? Use the Report button on the item or message. You can do this without an account: you then give your name and email address and declare that your report is correct. If it involves the sexual abuse of children, you do not have to give your name and email address. We confirm your report and let you know what we decided, if we can reach you. We do not pass your name on to the person you report, unless the law requires it.
7. When we take action
We can remove an item or message, or exclude an account from the community temporarily or permanently. We do this carefully and weigh the interests of everyone involved, including freedom of expression. You will always hear from us: what we did, for how long, under which rule, why, and whether it followed a report. Your workspace keeps working as usual.
If we suspect a criminal offence that threatens someone's life or safety, we report it to the police.
If you disagree, reply to our message or email support@notabula.com. You can do this up to six months after our decision. We will then look at it again. You can also file a complaint with the Netherlands Authority for Consumers and Markets (ACM), which supervises online platforms, or go to court.
What we remove and reports we have handled are kept for six months after our decision, in case of an objection. After that we delete them.
8. Deleting your account
If you delete your account, your items and public name are removed. Your messages stay under Deleted account, so conversations can still be followed. If you want a message gone for good, remove it yourself first or contact us.
9. Using items
Items come from other users. We look at them, but we do not guarantee that they are correct or suitable for what you want to do with them. Check an item before you rely on it.
10. Contact
Questions? Email support@notabula.com. This address is also our point of contact for users and for authorities, such as regulators and the European Commission. You can write to us in Dutch and in English, and people read your message. Riemersma, Nijlânsdyk 145-D, 8931 GA Leeuwarden.
